Hormuz Gridlock Risks Global Food Crisis, International Chamber of Commerce Chief Says

Available fertilizer capacity has fallen by nearly 40% since the strait was disrupted

The monthslong conflict between Iran and the U.S. has curbed the flow of goods through the Strait of Hormuz, a waterway many countries rely on for imports of critical inputs like fertilizers and natural gas.

Focus has been on the resulting rise in oil prices, but it is potential food shortages the world should be paying attention to, said ICC secretary-general John Denton.

“People see this fundamentally through the prism of the battle between U.S. and Iran which is in a way theatrical, it is so overpowering,” Denton said. “The story which is the killer…is the fertilizer story.”

About one-third of global fertilizer shipments pass through the narrow waterway, creating potentially catastrophic knock-on effects for agricultural producers.

If no progress is made, prices of food staples will soar, with Denton estimating an up to 80% increase in cereal prices.

Gunfire Exchanged Between Coast Guard Personnel and Shooters Across US-Mexico Border

The Sept 26 incident near Garceno, Texas, prompted coordination between US and Mexican military commanders

Coast Guard personnel exchanged gunfire with people on the Mexican side of the border, an encounter the U.S. military later cited as an example of increased illegal activity as hundreds of U.S. troops and their equipment were repositioned to Texas’ Rio Grande Valley and 500 Mexican Army and National Guard personnel were deployed to its side of the border.

Coast Guard personnel were intercepting migrants crossing the Rio Grande while working with other federal agencies when the initial gunshots came from the Mexican side of the border. Coast Guard personnel then returned fire, officials said on Friday, according to Stars and Stripes.

Trump ponders whether Iran should 'take out Los Angeles' while defending higher gas prices and war with Iran

California Democrats slammed Donald Trump after he joked the US should let Iran 'take out' Los Angeles and San Diego at a rally in Nebraska on Monday.

The President campaigned in Grand Island alongside GOP Senator Pete Ricketts, who is running against an independent candidate backed by national Democrats.

Trump was defending the Iran War and explaining that higher gas prices - which he hopes to lower with an Executive Order expanding access to tax-exempt diesel - are a small price to pay to keep Iran from having a nuclear weapon.

'And again, remember, with the war, it's just artificial. It's a little bit high. It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe,' he said.

Trump approves military firing squad for 'jihadist' Army sergeant major who massacred 13 at Fort Hood

Trump said the former Army major turned jihadist who killed 13 people and wounded 30 in a mass shooting at Fort Hood will face death by firing squad.

Nidal Hasan claimed he launched the terror attack over anger about being deployed to Afghanistan and a desire to protect Islamic and Taliban leaders from US troops.

He was sentenced to death following the 2009 shooting.

Chief Pentagon Spokesman Sean Parnell declared that Hasan will be just the second person since 2010 to be put to death by a firing squad Monday.

Since 1608, at least 144 civilian prisoners have been executed by shooting in America, nearly all in Utah.

Five states currently allow executions by firing squad: Idaho, Mississippi, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Utah.
