Judge Blocks Trump Orders To Eliminate DEI at Universities
A judge has permanently blocked two of President Trump’s orders aimed at eliminating diversity, equity and inclusivity (DEI) policies in universities.
On Thursday, Judge Stephanie Gallagher said the Department of Education violated the law by calling for all federally funded educational institutions to eliminate DEI programs within 14 days, or face the complete withdrawal of federal funding.
In two memos issued by the Department’s Office for Civil Rights, educational institutions were told their DEI initiatives are a form of racial discrimination and violate federal civil rights law.
“Educational institutions have toxically indoctrinated students with the false premise that the United States is built upon ‘systemic and structural racism’ and advanced discriminatory policies and practices,” wrote Craig Trainor, the acting assistant secretary of the department’s Office for Civil Rights.
