Las Vegas' growing mosquito problem is 'a
ticking time bomb'
LAS VEGAS — If at one time it was thought mosquitoes couldn’t survive in desert climates, this city is a case study in how wrong that is.
Mosquitoes typically prefer more tropical, humid conditions, but these biting machines have exploded in number throughout the Las Vegas Valley in recent years because of a host of changes.
It's also caught people off guard.
“People aren’t wrong that mosquitoes shouldn’t really thrive in desert conditions, but it’s clear that the particular set of species that we do have in Clark County has adapted to the local ecology,” said Louisa Messenger, an assistant professor in the department of environmental and global health at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

An American woman’s tearful social media video sobbing over financial stress was shared by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), who called the woman’s plight “unacceptable.”
In the video posted to TikTok, the Illinois woman says she’s been struggling to get by due to rising gas, energy and food prices and asks if anyone else is in a similar predicament.
“The gas prices and the electric bills and the prices of food is just so overwhelming,” she says.
“I’m wondering if anybody else is feeling like they’re drowning and they can’t get out. I work overtime, and I cannot get above water. I mean, I literally have no gas for next week. It was either that or get a few groceries to get by. I hit my local food pantries. I’m just wondering if anybody else feels like they’re drowning.”

A Georgia daycare worker was arrested and charged on Monday for severely beating a one-year-old boy at Little Blessings Child Care in Bainbridge.
Heartbreaking and shocking photos posted to social media show the precious baby boy suffered a black eye and lacerations to his face.
54-year-old Yvette Thurston was arrested and charged with first-degree aggravated battery and three counts of felony child abuse.
According to reports little baby Clay Weeks was beaten on his first day at the daycare. He was immediately taken to a local hospital for evaluation.
Authorities have reviewed surveillance video of the beating; however, the footage has not been released to the public. No other details of the horrific beating have been released.
Thurston’s bond was set for a measly $44,000, and she already bonded out of Decatur County Jail.
