A US warship and multiple commercial vessels were attacked in the Red Sea on Sunday, the Pentagon said — a frightening development ratcheting up maritime tensions in the Middle East during the Israel-Hamas war.
The USS Carney, which had previously shot down missiles and drones aimed at it as it escorted a commercial vessel through the war-torn region, was targeted, the Pentagon said. It was not immediately clear whether the American warship was struck.
But at least one commercial vessel was known to be hit Sunday: a vessel belonging to a British company owned by Danny Ungar, the son of Israeli shipping magnate Rami Ungar.

After the Civil War, Congress sought to impose an individual income tax, but the Supreme Court ruled in 1895 that such a move was an unconstitutional direct tax. A response was the 16th Amendment, which says “income, from whatever source derived,” can be taxed without apportionment. That led to the modern federal income tax.
The 1913 amendment doesn’t specify what “income” means, nor does it say income must be realized.

Al Jaber also said a phase-out of fossil fuels would not allow sustainable development “unless you want to take the world back into caves”.
The comments were “incredibly concerning” and “verging on climate denial”, scientists said, and they were at odds with the position of the UN secretary general, António Guterres.

The tax on childlessness was adopted during World War II and existed until the breakup of the Soviet Union. The tax applied to men aged 20-50 and married women aged 20-45.
