WOKE Latter-day Saint leader apologizes for 'wrong' statement about Black people and priesthood
An international Young Men leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints apologized late Monday for statements about Black people he made Sunday night during a regional fireside in Alpine, Utah.
Brother Brad Wilcox, second counselor in the Young Men general presidency and a professor of ancient scripture at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, posted the apology on his official church leadership Facebook page on Monday evening.
"My dear friends, I made a serious mistake last night, and I am truly sorry," Brother Wilcox wrote. "The illustration I attempted to use about the timing of the revelation on the priesthood for Black members was wrong. I've reviewed what I said and I recognize that what I hoped to express about trusting God's timing did NOT come through as I intended. To those I offended, especially my dear Black friends, I offer my sincere apologies, and ask for your forgiveness. I am committed to do better."
Retired Sodomite pope asks pardon for abuse, but admits no wrongdoing
ROME — Retired Pope Benedict XVI asked forgiveness Tuesday for any "grievous faults" in his handling of clergy sex abuse cases, but denied any personal or specific wrongdoing after an independent report criticized his actions in four cases while he was archbishop of Munich, Germany.
Benedict's lack of a personal apology or admission of guilt immediately riled sex abuse survivors, who said his response reflected the Catholic hierarchy's "permanent" refusal to accept responsibility for the rape and sodomy of children by priests.

Could the 14th Amendment keep Trump out of the Oval Office? Test case happening in NC
An obscure portion of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution says that public officials cannot serve in any future federal, state, or military office if they engaged in “insurrection or rebellion.” Would that apply to people who participated in the Jan. 6 attack on Congress?
Some legal experts say the clause could be used against former officeholders — up to and including former President Donald Trump — who supported the events of that day.
What does the amendment say?
While the 14th Amendment is best known for enabling African Americans to become citizens of the United States, Section 3, says that no person “shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military” who had previously taken an oath to support the Constitution and then “engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
The language was included “to prevent current and former U.S. military officers, federal officers and state officials who served the Confederacy from serving again in public office unless their disability was removed by at least a two-thirds vote of each house of Congress,” wrote Gerard N. Magliocca, a law professor at Indiana University.

Israeli, Palestinian public figures propose two-state confederation plan
Former justice minister Yossi Beilin and Hiba Husseini, a former legal adviser to the Palestinian negotiating team, to present outline to UN and US officials
Israeli and Palestinian public figures have drawn up a new proposal for a two-state confederation that they hope will offer a way forward after a decade-long stalemate in Mideast peace efforts.
The plan calls for an independent state of Palestine in most of the West Bank, Gaza and East Jerusalem, territories Israel captured in the 1967 Six Day War. Israel and Palestine would have separate governments but coordinate at a very high level on security, infrastructure and other issues that affect both populations.

Is misinformation becoming a trend on Utah's Capitol Hill?
A Utah bill to create a permanent digital driver's license program faces an uncertain future after dozens of constituents flocked to a House committee hearing on Monday to voice their frustration with digital IDs — many citing unfounded fears of a United Nations takeover or concentration camps.
One woman invoked the New Testament's Book of Revelation when she called digital driver's licenses "moving one step closer to the mark of the beast."
In the end, the committee adjourned without recommending the bill, which previously passed the Senate unanimously. The House can resurrect discussion of the bill at any time, though it has no public plans to do so.
The scene was reminiscent of a similar demonstration last month, when people spoke out during a committee hearing about a workers' compensation bill for firefighters they incorrectly believed would have authorized the National Guard to arrest the unvaccinated.

Utah National Guard deployed to St. George hospital
In response to a shortage of health care workers, the Utah National Guard on Tuesday was deployed to St. George Regional Hospital, marking the first time the Utah Guard has been deployed to a hospital setting in Utah.
ST. GEORGE — Hospital officials in St. George seeking a solution to an unusual crisis have found a unique temporary fix, thanks to the Utah National Guard.
Working in health care has been extra difficult during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as the omicron variant continues to sweep through Utah.
"It's just been a struggle to hire. It's been really hard for the last two years under COVID to be in health care, it's a difficult time," said Mark Evans, St. George Regional Hospital's operations officer.
The Guard will provide nonclinical assistance at the hospital as patient volumes have spiked to the highest levels of the pandemic as the omicron surge has significantly impacted staffing.
Guard members will be working in housekeeping services, doing things such as cleaning patient rooms and cleaning common areas as well as working in food services, allowing the hospital to continue to provide meals for patients and staff.

Canada: Alberta Will End Mandated Vaccine Passports at Midnight
The Canadian province of Alberta will be ending its mandated vaccine passport system at midnight along with other coronavirus restrictions.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Alberta Premier Jason Kenney laid out his three-step plan to end coronavirus restrictions in the Canadian province. On the issue of vaccine passports, the premier said the QR code system for vaccinated citizens will still be in place for businesses that wish to enforce it, though they will not be required to do so.
When asked why he will continue to allow businesses to discriminate based on vaccinated status, the premier cited the “free market.”
Despite his allowing businesses to use the QR code system, the premier did say that he hopes coronavirus restrictions can be rolled back over the next few months as Canadians learn to live with the virus.
Kenney makes it clear: he'll bring all of these measures back if he wants to.
