Police in Nova Scotia have fined 26 churchgoers a total of $2,422
each for attending an “illegal faith
gathering” on Sunday. This is believed to be the highest value of fines handed
out to individual parishioners in North America since the pandemic began.
Officers were called to Weston Christian Fellowship Church in Weston, N.S., where
they found the service in progress. Nova Scotia has one of the strictest rules
in Canada, where it is illegal to have any in-person church service,
irrespective of the number of people or the space it is being done in.

Alkaline hydrolysis, or 'water cremation,' which involves liquifying the human body and dumping the remains into the sewage system, is already approved in 20 states.
Wisconsin senators approved a bill earlier this week allowing dead bodies to be dissolved in a chemical bath and disposed like sewage.
The bill, Senate Bill 228, authorizes a practice called alkaline hydrolysis, or “water cremation,” which liquifies the human body using a mixture of water, heat, and chemical agents, leaving only bones behind. The liquid is then dumped into the sewage system or boiled off, and bones can be crushed and deposited in an urn.

Utah’s Kane County has handed nearly half a million dollars in recent years to a Texas-based nonprofit for consulting and legal services regarding public land management. The spending comes on top of the millions it has spent litigating legal claims based on “R.S. 2477,” a frontier-era law that allowed counties to own roads built across public land.
“What we’re witnessing is the transformation back to that feudal state where, not kings today, but the federal government and the environmental elite own the land and decide what’s going to be done with it. And they tell us what we can grow, if we can grow and where we can grow. As numbers dwindle at mass vaccination sites, officials rely on grassroots efforts to reach those who haven’t gotten the shots yet
“We knew that we would start with the large chunk of people who are open and are willing to be vaccinated,” Hudachko said. The first wave of ads “was dangling the carrot … that getting back to Jazz games, getting to restaurants, getting back to shopping centers, visiting with grandparents — all those things are going to made possible by getting vaccinated.”
For the next phase, “it’s really going to be less about this mass-media approach that you’ve seen over the past several months,” Hudachko said. “We’re going to rely more on geo-targeted paid social media, so that we can get these messages into specific parts of the state. We’re going to rely more on rural newspapers, rural radio, and static billboards in these communities.”
As of last week, 41% of the state’s Asian American adult population, 34% of Hispanic adults, 23% of black adults and 23% of adults in the native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community had been fully or partly vaccinated, according to Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson. That compares to just over 50% of the adult white population of Utah that has gotten their shots.
“The hope is that people who are hesitant, or worried about possible side effects of the vaccine, will at least ask questions of their physician or health care provider, and try to get good information about what’s going on,” Redd said. “That’s the hope.”
