The last American citizen receiving a Civil War pension has died in North Carolina at the age of 90.  Irene Triplett, whose father fought for the Union Army between 1863 and 1865, passed away Sunday in Wilkesboro from complications following surgery.  Irene suffered from from mental disabilities and therefore qualified for federal financial support as a 'helpless adult child of a veteran', according to The Washington Post. 





The Department of Veterans Affairs is to begin the process to remove grave headstones of World War Two German prisoners of war that display swastikas and markings related to the Nazi regime. The VA said Monday in a statement that it has decided to replace the headstones on gravesites of three German POWs. Two are located at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas, and one is at Fort Douglas Post Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah.
One of the headstones shows that a prisoner was awarded the Iron Cross, a German military decoration for valor. The other two show a modified Iron Cross, which depicts a swastika within a cross.







By including a non-nuclear attack as a possible trigger for Russian nuclear retaliation, the document appears to send a warning signal to the US.

A new Morning Consult Poll finds that 58% of Americans want the military brought in to help police deal with riots, with 30% opposing the measure.
Asked if they supported “Calling in the U.S. military to supplement city police forces,” 33% said they strongly support the measure and 25% somewhat support it for a total support of 58%, while 19% strongly oppose and 11% somewhat oppose the measure.
The survey also found that 71% of Americans supported using the National Guard as a way of addressing “protests and demonstrations” in U.S. cities.

NINETEEN world armies to join Russians for annual Red Square Victory Parade
The Russian Defense Ministry has invited personnel from 19 world armies to participate in the country’s annual Victory Parade. All participants must be symptom-free and test positive for coronavirus antibodies.
The parade, scheduled for June 24, will include about 14,000 people and take place in Moscow’s Red Square. The annual celebration of victory over Nazism usually takes place on May 9, but was postponed this year due to the dangers posed by the Covid-19 pandemic
The originally planned parade on May 9, 2020 was due to be attended by leaders and dignitaries from around the world, including France’s Emmanuel Macron, China’s Xi Jinping and India’s Narendra Modi. As of yet, it is unknown how many will attend on the newly scheduled date.
