DoJ Indicts 8 Chinese Companies for Role in Fentanyl Trade
“The global fentanyl supply chain, which ends with the deaths of Americans, often starts with chemical companies based in China,” Attorney General Merrick B. Garland said in a press release.
The defendants “openly advertised their ability to thwart border officials,” used tactics such as mislabeling the contents of shipments, and shipped “a stable supply of precursor chemicals” to clients in the United States and Mexico for years.
One of the companies charged is Wuhan Mingyue Information Technology, based in northern China’s Hubei Province. In January, the company was charged with attempted importation of fentanyl precursors and money laundering, along with a Chinese national named Huanhuang Song, who is alleged to have held a Bitcoin wallet and a Western Union account for payments for the company’s precursor chemicals.

A Wisconsin sheriff is warning that the state will be “screwed” if Vice President Kamala Harris defeats former President Donald Trump in November.
The remark was relayed on Thursday by Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt as he testified during a House Judiciary Committee hearing in Milwaukee on how the border crisis had impacted Wisconsin. Schmidt, the president of the Badger State Sheriffs Association, said that law enforcement around the state were seeing a surge in crime and strain on resources.
“If Trump doesn’t win this election, we are screwed,” Schmidt said that one of his fellow Wisconsin sheriffs told him, saying another told him “people don’t understand how bad it is.”

PRAGUE (AP) — The Czech Republic signed a treaty over its relations with the Vatican on Thursday, becoming one of the last European Union countries to do so.
The lower chamber of Parliament rejected the treaty in 2003, saying the Catholic Church would receive preferential treatment over other churches and that it would be disadvantageous for the country, considered one of the most atheist in the European Union.
The Vatican has signed a similar treaty with 25 EU members states and a total of 64 countries in the world, the Czech government said.
