Across California, Geico customers suddenly found their local offices shuttered on Tuesday.
Doors locked. Lights out. Some were found with a hand-written note on the door stating that the local insurance offices had closed, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
“I’d be worried about it if they’re closing or if all the insurance are going to close or is a recession coming or what is it?” customer Angelina Barron, who saw such a sign, told KXTV-TV in Sacramento.

The US government is warning of critical vulnerabilities in its Emergency Alert System (EAS) systems that, if exploited, could enable intruders to send fake alerts out over television, radio, and cable networks.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in an advisory it was recently informed about the flaws in EAS encoder and decoder devices, adding that they were successfully exploited by Ken Pyle, a security researcher at cybersecurity firm CYBIR. There is a sense of urgency to the advisory because the exploit "may" be presented, with proof of concept code, at the DEF CON conference in Las Vegas next week.

Cloud seeding could bring more water to the Great Salt Lake, Utah Department of Natural Resources says
According to experts, cloud seeding can increase the amount of precipitation during a storm.
The Utah Department of Natural Resources wants to try what’s called cloud seeding to try and help save the Great Salt Lake.
It’s a weather modification that happens by burning silver iodide in the clouds during long winter storms. When the silver iodide burns, particles go into the atmosphere and their charge attracts water to them. The Acting Director of the DNR, Joel Ferry, said cloud seeding could bring more water to the lake.
“The more of this silver iodide you put into the atmosphere, the more — when a storm comes across — the more water will fall out of that storm,” Ferry said.
Silver iodide is naturally occurring and cloud seeding only requires small amounts, Ferry said.
He thinks cloud seeding would be a worthwhile investment. That investment could look like getting planes to fly over the inversion or having remote meters that turn on during storms.
