GoFundMe withholding $4.7 million from trucker convoy until plan presented
GoFundMe has frozen access to the more than $4.7 million in funds raised by the trucker convoy now wending its way across the country toward Ottawa in a protest against vaccine mandates.
"Our current government is implementing rules and mandates that are destroying the foundation of our businesses, industries and livelihoods," the convoy's GoFundMe page states.
As of Jan. 15, the federal government required Canadian truckers to be fully vaccinated if they want to avoid a 14-day quarantine when they cross the border from the United States.
The Canadian Trucking Alliance, which has denounced the convoy protest, says more than 85 per cent of the 120,000 Canadian truck drivers who regularly traverse the border are vaccinated, but that up to 16,000 may be sidelined due to the new restriction, exacerbating supply chain problems.

"In recent years, local governments have attempted to exploit loopholes in state law to regulate firearms at conventions, not acting in the best interests of all Utahns."
The bill seeks to declare with more clarity that the state has total control over gun laws in Utah — so no city or county can work around it like Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson did in December of 2019 when she announced an "operational change" that mostly affected gun shows at the Salt Palace Convention Center, Mountain America Expo Center and Salt Lake County Equestrian Park. Before the change, sales by licensed dealers at gun shows required buyers to pass background checks, but private sales were not subject to them.
FAA approves 90% of planes for low-visibility landings near 5G airports
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday issued approvals for additional altimeters that allow about 90% of the U.S. commercial aviation fleet to perform low-visibility landings at airports where 5G wireless is deployed.
The FAA said it had cleared seven additional altimeters, bringing the total approved to 20. As of last week, it had cleared about 78% of commercial planes.
AT&T and Verizon agreed on Jan. 18 to delay switching on new telecom towers near key airports even as they turned on the new 5G C-Band service.
Radio altimeters are used to give data on height above ground for bad-weather landings and the
5G technology could cause interference.

The convoy of 50,000 truckers are making their way to Ottawa this weekend to demonstrate against a mandate that requires them to be fully vaccinated or face a 14-day quarantine every time they cross the US border.
The Freedom Convoy, the group responsible for organizing the protest, said they only expected around 1,600 truckers to join the protest but that number has now massively swelled, contradicting Trudeau’s pejorative that the group is a “fringe minority.”
