Sen. Mitt Commie Romney proposes to send monthly cash to families — permanently
SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Mitt Romney unveiled a plan Thursday to send American families $350 a month for each young child and $250 for each school-age child on an ongoing basis.
The Family Security Act aims to streamline existing federal family policies to create one universal child benefit. The legislation would consolidate many complicated programs to create a monthly cash payment for families without adding to the deficit, according to Romney, R-Utah.
Report: High levels of toxic heavy metals found in some baby foods
U.S. congressional investigators found "dangerous levels of toxic heavy metals" in certain baby foods that could cause neurological damage, a House Oversight subcommittee said in a report released on Thursday.
The panel examined baby foods made by Nurture Inc, Hain Celestial Group Inc, Beech-Nut Nutrition and Gerber, it said, adding that it was "greatly concerned" that Walmart, Campbell Soup and Sprout Organic Foods refused to cooperate with the investigation.
The report said internal company standards "permit dangerously high levels of toxic heavy metals, and documents revealed that the manufacturers have often sold foods that exceeded those levels."
Arsenic, lead and other toxic metals that can harm brain development have been found in many popular baby foods, including organic brands. A U.S. House Subcommittee said it requested internal data from seven companies in 2019 after a nonprofit called Healthy Babies Bright Futures published results of testing it did on baby foods, according to a congressional report released Thursday. Four of the companies shared documents with the subcommittee, including: Gerber, Beech-Nut, Earth´s Best Organics maker Hain Celestial and Happy Family Organics maker Nurture Inc. Walmart, Sprout Foods and Campbell Soup Co., which makes Plum Organics baby food, didn´t cooperate, the subcommittee said.

The US has sent the USS ‘John S. McCain’ past Chinese-controlled islands in the South China Sea as a show of strength in the first mission conducted since President Joe Biden took office.
The US Navy announced the mission in a statement, claiming that the USS ‘John S. McCain’ was asserting “navigational rights and freedoms in the vicinity of the Parcel Islands, consistent with international law.”
The warship had been carrying out operations in the region, having traveled through the Taiwan Strait on Thursday, an area that divides mainland China and Taiwan.
