COVID-19 just days before being sworn in - as US hits new daily death

Luke Letlow, Louisiana's incoming Republican member of the U.S. House, died Tuesday night from complications related to COVID-19 only days before he was due to be sworn into office. The 41-year-old died just 11 days after announcing he had tested positive for COVID-19. At the time, he said he was at home, 'resting, following all CDC guidelines, quarantine protocols, and the recommendations of my doctors'.
On December 19, Letlow said he was undergoing treatment at St Francis Hospital in Monroe. Three days after being admitted, his office said he had been transferred to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport Academic Medical Center. He died from a heart attack following a procedure related to the infection, his doctors said. He is pictured, left, with his wife Julia with their two young children in a recent photo they used for their Thanksgiving card.

Utah GOP Sen. Mitt Romney opposed $2,000 COVID-19 stimulus checks
A growing number of Republican senators support $2,000 stimulus checks, but Utah Sen. Mitt Romney is not among them.
Romney, who championed the stimulus checks back in March, opposed the $600 direct payments that were eventually added to the bipartisan aid package approved last week. Though he voted for the bill, the payments were not part of the original plan he helped negotiate with a group of eight Republican and Democratic senators.
"Someone's got to pay for that. We can't just have free money. There's got to be taxation. We have to pay interest on the debt," Romney said.

ER nurse tests positive for COVID-19 eight days AFTER he received Pfizer vaccine
A California nurse has tested positive for COVID-19 just eight days after receiving the vaccination. ER nurse Matthew W., received the Pfizer vaccine on December 18, according to a post from Instagram. 'Got my Covid vaccine! The 15 minutes afterward sitting around with a bunch of others while health care workers asked us how we felt made me think of an opium den. I'll report back if I start to grow a third arm,' Matthew wrote. But on Christmas Eve, Matthew, who works at two different hospitals in San Diego, began feeling sick after working a shift in the COVID-19 unit. On December 26, he went to a hospital to get tested for the virus and tested positive.
Pamela Perry told police in August 2019 that she was concerned about her boyfriend Anthony Warner building a bomb in his RV. Police went to his house, but never searched the vehicle. The RV was detonated on Christmas Day in downtown Nashville, causing widespread destruction and killing Warner. Police are yet to identify a motive.
