Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets
Federal Law Enforcement Use Unmarked Vehicles To Grab Protesters Off Portland Streets
Federal law
enforcement officers have been using unmarked vehicles to drive around downtown
Portland and detain protesters since at least July 14. Personal accounts and
multiple videos posted online show the officers driving up to people, detaining
individuals with no explanation of why they are being arrested, and
driving off. The tactic appears to be another escalation in federal force
deployed on Portland city streets, as federal officials and President Donald
Trump have said they plan to “quell” nightly protests outside the federal
courthouse and Multnomah County Justice Center that have lasted for more than
six weeks.

ACLU files lawsuit over federal agents in Portland
The American
Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on Friday filed a lawsuit against the Department
of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Marshals Service after they deployed agents
to quell demonstrations in Portland, Ore.
The ACLU’s
lawsuit seeks to block federal law enforcement from dispersing, arresting,
threatening to arrest, or using physical force against journalists or legal
observers. The group says the move is one of many suits it will be filing for
“unconstitutional attacks” on protesters in the city.
The Pentagon
produced a list of permitted flags which can be flown on military installations
and left the Confederate flag off, an apparent attempt not to anger Donald
Trump.

Civil rights icon John Lewis, whose bloody beating by Alabama state
troopers at Selma in 1965 (pictured left) helped galvanize opposition to racial
segregation, has died at the age of 80. The Georgia congressman had been
fighting stage 4 pancreatic cancer since December and died after receiving
hospice care in Atlanta. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi confirmed Lewis' passing
late Friday night, calling him 'one of the greatest heroes of American
