Musk's X sues nonprofit that fights hate speech
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, on Monday sued a nonprofit that fights hate speech and disinformation, accusing it of asserting false claims and encouraging advertisers to pause investment on the platform.
U.S. media reported earlier that Elon Musk-owned X had sent a letter to the Center for Countering Digital Hate and threatened to sue the nonprofit for unspecified damages.
In response to that letter, lawyers for the center accused X of "intimidating those who have the courage to advocate against incitement, hate speech and harmful content online." They also said that X's allegations had no factual basis.
The nonprofit will continue its independent research, Ahmed added.
In a blog post on Monday, X said the center had gained access to its data without authorization and accused it of scraping data from its platform, violating X's terms.

Utah to receive $599K to protect children from lead in drinking water
Utah will receive $599,000 in grant money to reduce the amount of lead in drinking water in schools and child care facilities, the Environmental Protection Agency announced Tuesday.
Following the passage of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law in 2021, removing sources of lead is now eligible for grants (with strings attached) through the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act. The money will be administered through President Joe Biden's Investing in America Agenda.
Lead can enter the bloodstream through contaminated drinking water or by exposure to lead-based paints — which are common in homes built prior to 1978 when they were banned.
