Utah Legislature passes last-minute ban on transgender female athletes;

In the last few hours of the Utah Legislature on Friday night, a lawmaker proposed an all-out ban on transgender female students participating on girls sports teams.
The Senate passed the bill 16-13. The House then passed the bill 46-29 with its changes after a 15-minute debate.
But Gov. Spencer Cox said he'll veto it immediately. The narrow vote margin in the Senate is unlikely to see a veto override.
"I was as stunned as most members of the Senate were," Cox said. "Some of the worst decisions get made at the last minute."

Proposed Utah Lake Authority wins Legislature’s approval
Two bills, HB240 and HB232, look to put ailing lake on path to recovery.
HB232 would replace the Utah Lake Commission with a powerful authority overseen by an appointed board with exclusive jurisdiction over the lake’s 150-square-mile bed in the heart of the fast-growing Utah Valley.
Operating under a $902,000 annual budget, the new Utah Lake Authority would be overseen by a 15-member appointed board made up of representatives of the Legislature, the Governor’s Office, Utah County and several lakefront cities. It would have taxing and bonding authority (MORE THEFT) to enable it to raise money to fund rehabilitation projects.
The bill would allow the authority to collect a $2-a-month levy on all 300,000 sewer connections served by wastewater treatment plants that discharge into the lake, raising up to $7 million a year.
