White House Announces Six 'Initial Actions to Address the Gun Violence'
president's call for Congress to "pass legislation to reduce gun violence", the administration has introduced "its own steps" to "save lives".
- Countering 'ghost guns'. The Justice Department is set to issue a proposed rule to help stop the proliferation of ghost guns within 30 days.
- Addressing stabilizing braces. Within 60 days, the Justice Department will issue a proposed rule "to make clear when a device marketed as a stabilizing brace effectively turns a pistol into a short-barreled rifle subject to the requirements of the National Firearms Act."
- 'Red flag' legislation. Red flag laws allow family members or law enforcement to ask for a court order to temporarily prohibit "people in crisis" from accessing firearms if it is judged that they present a danger to themselves or others.
- 'Evidence-based community violence interventions'. According to the statement, "community violence interventions are proven strategies for reducing gun violence in urban communities through tools other than incarceration".
- An annual report on firearms trafficking. The Justice Department will release "a new, comprehensive report on firearms trafficking and annual updates necessary to give policymakers the information they need to help address firearms trafficking today."
- A new head for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The president will nominate David Chipman to be the director of the agency.

Track and field coach Bradley Keyes told reporters in New Hampshire that he has been fired after he refused to force students to wear masks outside while they were engaged in sporting activities.
Coach Keyes was working at Pembroke Academy when it introduced an outdoor mask policy, which he calls “senseless, irrational, cowardice bullsh*t.”
“I will not stand up in front of the kids and lie to them and tell them that these masks are doing anything worthwhile out in an open field with wind blowing and the sun shining,” Keyes explained in a letter to the school’s athletics director.
Keyes added that “These insane policies are robbing kids of once in a lifetime opportunities for no valid reason other than irrational fears and going along with the sheep.”

New York City's ultra-high earners will soon have to pay a top marginal income tax rate of nearly 52%, the highest personal income tax hit in the U.S. That means — in theory, at least — that some of the city's wealthiest residents could end up giving more of their paychecks to federal, state and local governments than they keep for themselves.
"What the state is considering will push companies and higher-income families out of the city, which will cost us tax revenue and jobs," Ray McGuire, a former top Citigroup banker, recently told the New York Post.
In addition, New York City may not remain on top for long. California lawmakers have introduced bills that could raise the top combined rate in that state to 54%. Washington state lawmakers have been advancing a bill to institute a capital gains tax in that state of 7% on investment income above $250,000, with retirement income exempt from the levy.
