WASHINGTON—The U.S.–China trade war and the COVID-19 pandemic have forced companies to reduce their excessive dependence on China as a single supplier.
U.S. brands have started to explore sourcing options closer to home, with Latin and South America gaining significant traction in recent months, according to a survey by Qima, a Hong Kong-based supply chain inspection company… Vietnam continues to reap the most benefits of the continued mass exodus of Western buyers from China, with 40 percent of EU respondents and almost as many U.S. brands including Vietnam among their top sourcing regions,” the report stated.
Among other Asian countries, Taiwan is emerging “an indisputable leader” as it enjoys overwhelming preference as a sourcing market among American companies.

Proposed referendum on Provo mask mandate wouldn't appear on ballot until November 2021
A group is launching a referendum effort to repeal Provo's face covering mandate.
The group calling itself "Utahns for Medical Freedom" filed a referendum on the mandate passed by the Provo City Council.
Mayor Michele Kaufusi previously vetoed the ordinance, but members of the Provo City Council overrode that veto.
The group must gather 3,200 signatures across a portion of council districts in order to qualify for the November 2021 ballot. In the meantime, the ordinance would remain in effect and is set to expire on November 15, 2020. In its own statement, the group questioned the legality of that.
"This has the chilling effect of dissuading any person or group from EVER filing referendums," the group's Mary Ann Nielsen said in a statement. "While responses to COVD-19 are all over the spectrum, one point is certain: The People of the State of Utah are the final say in all legislative matters. We’ve had enough of overbearing, unaccountable, uneducated, emotional knee-jerk reactions that curtail or eliminate our right to decide matters concerning our own health and safety."
Provo City Recorder Amanda Ercanbrack confirmed that the city would not implement a stay on the mask mandate until the petition has received enough signatures.
"Thats not our interpretation of the law," Ercanbrack said, responding to the concerns of Utahns for Medical Freedom.
The ordinance requires face coverings in three instances:
- Indoor public areas wherever social distancing of six feet is not possible
- Indoor gatherings of more than 50 people, regardless of whether social distancing of six feet is possible
- Outdoor gatherings of more than 25 people where social distancing is not possible
Exemptions to the order include:
- Children under the age of 5
- People with medical conditions that prevent them from wearing a mask, and people who are hearing impaired (I CAN’T BREATH!)
- People who are seated at a restaurant, while eating or drinking
- Individuals engaging in strenuous physical activity such as fitness classes or running
- Individuals who are asked to briefly remove the covering for identification
Mask mandates have been issued by local authorities in: Salt Lake, Summit and Grand Counties, Logan City, Springdale, and Bluff. Gov. Gary Herbert has repeatedly said he does not want to issue a statewide mandate, but rather leave that decision up to local communities.

SHOCKING footage shows the moment a priest in a face mask drops dead in front of his congregation in Cameroon.
The clip was shot as the man, identified as Rev. Fr Jude, was delivering a sermon in the western city of Douala on August 30.
The reverend, who was also the the spiritual director of the country's Catholic Men Association, is seen standing at his pulpit and leading a Sunday mass.
At one point in the address, he pauses and then stops speaking altogether.
His eyes then become droopy and he sways on the spot for a moment before keeling backward and falling to the floor.
Fellow clergymen who had been sat behind him rush forward to help and members of the congregation can be heard screaming.
It is not currently clear whether the priest had any known health conditions.
